Item Master | HS Code Finder
Classified once, on the item. Not re-guessed every shipment.
The HS code lives on the item master alongside everything else about it, so the declaration draws from the same record the invoice and the stock ledger do. The code is suggested from the item description and specification, a human reviews it, and the decision locks with the reasoning attached. What it is not is a lookup someone repeats from memory at the point of shipping.
What the system does
Capability, input, output.
| Capability | Input | Output |
|---|---|---|
| Classification suggestion | Item description, specification, material | Candidate codes ranked, with the reasoning shown |
| Human review gate | Suggested code + reviewer | Approved classification, locked against silent change |
| Item master storage | Approved code | Held on the item, read by every downstream document |
| Bulk classification | Catalogue upload | Suggestions in bulk, queued for review rather than auto-applied |
| Change tracking | Reclassification | Old code, new code, who changed it and why |
| Declaration feed | Shipment + item codes | Classification consistent across every declaration for that item |

Compliance + integrations
One item, one classification, everywhere.
The cost of a wrong HS code is rarely the first shipment. It is that the same wrong code is used for two years across hundreds of declarations, because nobody was storing the decision anywhere the next person would look. Holding it on the item master is what makes a correction a single change rather than an archaeology project.
Regulations we work within
-
Customs declaration
The classification on the declaration comes from the item master rather than being entered per shipment.
-
Preferential treatment
Where a trade agreement applies, the classification and the supporting origin evidence stay linked to the item.
-
Audit trail
Every classification and reclassification retained with its reasoning, for as long as the records are held.

HS Code Finder FAQ
What buyers ask.
Does the HS code affect our GST?
No, and this catches teams arriving from a country where it does. Singapore has one GST rate, so classification changes nothing about what you charge or claim. It decides your customs position: the duty on import, what goes on the declaration, and whether a preferential rate under a trade agreement is available to you. Finance usually meets it only when one of those turns out to have been wrong.
Our freight forwarder classifies for us. Why hold it ourselves?
Because the liability for the declaration is yours, not theirs, and because a forwarder classifying from a shipping description is working with less information than your item master already holds. Holding it yourself does not stop them helping; it means the same code goes out every time rather than being re-derived by whoever is handling that shipment.
Is the suggestion good enough to use directly?
No, and it is not offered as such. Classification is a judgment about what a thing is, and the tariff draws lines that are not obvious from a product name. The suggestion narrows the search from thousands of codes to a handful with the reasoning shown, and a human picks. Auto-applying it would be building the exact problem this page exists to solve.
We already have codes in a spreadsheet. Can we bring them?
Yes, and it is worth running the suggestion against them as you do. Imported codes come in as-is, and where the suggestion disagrees with what you have been using, that pairing is the most useful report the system will produce for you all year.
